Morgan Rogers currently holds the position, but the England head coach has challenged the star players by keeping them on the bench.
Initially, it didn’t seem like an exciting contest for England’s No 10 role. For the first hour, at least. Wembley was drenched at kick-off, with rain falling in large, slow drops, creating a closed-in atmosphere. For much of the match, it was a strange and uneventful World Cup qualifier, with little significance other than Serbia’s fading hopes.
However, by the end, there was a sense that something noteworthy had occurred. Credit must be given to Thomas Tuchel, who is excelling as England’s head coach, employing a nonchalant approach to international management.
