Morgan Rogers holds the shirt, but the England head coach has sparked a competition by keeping star players benched.
Initially, it didn’t seem like an exciting contest for England’s No. 10 role, at least not in the first hour. Wembley was drenched at kick-off, the rain creating a subdued atmosphere. For much of the match, it was an unusual, uneventful World Cup qualifier, with little at stake except for Serbia’s fading hopes.
However, by the end, there was a sense that something significant had occurred. Credit must go to Thomas Tuchel, England’s current innovator, who champions a laid-back approach to international management.
