Circulating social media rumors suggest that the Culinary Health Fund might have been targeted by a cyberattack. Las Vegas Locally shared this news on Tuesday about Nevada’s largest union-backed health provider.
Numerous individuals received a text on Monday night from the Culinary Health Fund, which supports over 145,000 people in Nevada, including many Las Vegas casino workers. The message alerted them to a potentially fraudulent text they might have received.
The situation resembles a phishing scam, where fraudsters aim to deceive people into believing they are owed money, subsequently asking them for personal banking details. The fake text claimed the recipient was owed $573.91.
The organization’s customer service office was closed on Tuesday due to Veterans Day.
This incident does not confirm that the Culinary Health Fund fell victim to a cyberattack. It might be a breach at a third-party messaging provider, with messages sent from genuine numbers. This issue arose at an inopportune time for the organization, as its customer service was closed for Veterans Day.
Nevada is familiar with cyberattacks. Recently, major entities such as MGM Resorts, Caesars Entertainment, and Boyd Gaming have been impacted as well.
