SlipsTips shares a selection ahead of West Ham’s clash with Newcastle in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
West Ham vs Newcastle (Sunday, 14:00)
Two teams in contrasting form will face off in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, as West Ham go up against Newcastle United at the London Stadium.
Even at this early stage of the season, West Ham are looking like relegation candidates, with the capital club losing seven of their opening nine league games of the campaign.
Newcastle, on the other hand, have won five of their last seven matches across all competitions, and they will be quietly confident about their chances of inflicting what would be a fifth Premier League defeat of the season on the struggling Hammers.
That is reflected in the pre-match odds, with Newcastle short-priced 8/13 favourites to emerge from East London victorious this weekend.
With Eddie Howe’s team a little too skinny to get involved with at the above-mentioned odds, I’m instead going to propose a player-based selection that offers value.
El Hadji Malick Diouf has been priced up at 5/6 on PaddyPower to be fouled once or more on Sunday afternoon, a price that holds plenty of appeal.
One of the few positives for West Ham this season is that they look to have unearthed a real gem in the shape of Diouf.
The young Hammers left-back possesses exceptional pace and strength, something that can be attributed to the number of fouls that he has drawn in recent weeks.
In fact, Diouf has been fouled in each of his last three outings in the Premier League, most notably earning his team multiple free-kicks against Arsenal at the Emirates last month.
The 20-year-old Senegalese international was also brought down against Sunderland and Nottingham Forest during the early weeks of the campaign, further highlighting his knack for drawing fouls from West Ham’s top-flight foes this term.
The likelihood of Diouf finding himself in similar areas of the pitch to that of Bruno Guimaraes and Kieran Trippier only strengthens the case for siding with this particular selection.
The above-mentioned Newcastle duo are both committing an average north of 1.6 fouls per game in this season’s Premier League.
