Exploring Croatia and Greece: Gaming and Cultural Insights from My European Business Excursion

Article and Photo Gallery By Stephen Crystal

The next stops of my recent European excursion took me to the heart of Croatia and Greece, where I had the pleasure of exploring the rich history, breathtaking landscapes, and burgeoning business environments. Starting in Zagreb, Croatia, and concluding in Athens, Greece, this journey was not only a personal adventure but also a professional pilgrimage to connect with client-partners and SCCG staff.

Zagreb, with its Austria-Hungarian roots, offers a visual feast of public art and architecture. From the Opera House and Music Hall to the Well of Life Sculpture and the State Archives, the city’s heritage is evident at every turn. Despite the devastating earthquake of 2021, Zagreb’s spirit remains unbroken. The city is undergoing significant refurbishment and reconstruction, a testament to its resilience.

The business landscape here is equally dynamic. Global giants like Google and Microsoft have established their presence, leveraging the rich IT talent pool in the region. Although inflation poses challenges, the traditionally strong wages in this part of the Balkans provide a solid foundation for economic stability.

My journey took me to Bear Mountain, overlooking a valley adorned with farms growing wheat, corn, and sunflowers. The sight of cattle grazing and the aroma of fresh milk brought a sense of tranquility. Enjoying homemade Croatian stew and sausage for lunch, followed by veal liver and scalloped potatoes for dinner, was a delightful experience, highlighting the importance of respecting nature and local traditions.

Meeting with Danko Vukovic of Elbet in Zagreb was a highlight, symbolizing the collaborative spirit that drives our industry. The beauty of Croatia’s natural landscapes further underscored the importance of respecting and preserving the environment, which translates into respecting our fellow man in business practices.

Exploring the waterfalls of Rastoke and the stunning Plitvicka Jezera National Park was an awe-inspiring experience. The visual and auditory spectacle of nature was a reminder of the world’s beauty, which we must strive to protect. This experience was not just about personal enjoyment but also about understanding the intrinsic value of nature in our lives and businesses.

My journey continued to Athens, Greece, where I reunited with SCCG Management’s Head of Sales, George Vonapartis. Catching up at a street-side cafe in the shadows of the Parthenon was a surreal experience. Our meetings with Kaizen Gaming and Novibet centered around the global iGaming markets, exploring new opportunities and strengthening existing partnerships.

This European excursion has been nothing short of extraordinary. From the historical and cultural richness of Zagreb to the ancient splendor of Athens, each moment was filled with learning and growth. As always, traveling to meet client-partners and SCCG staff worldwide reaffirms the importance of building strong, respectful relationships in business.

In closing, my time in Croatia and Greece was a vivid reminder of the resilience of cities, the beauty of nature, and the value of connecting with people. These experiences not only enrich us personally but also drive our professional endeavors forward.
