The NHL 2022-2023 season is officially over. The Vegas Golden Knights have been crowned as the Stanley Cup Champions for the first time in its six-year history. Vegas took down the Florida Panthers by a final score of 9-3 in Game 5 and won the series 4-1.
It is never too early to talk about the 2023-2024 NHL season. The Vegas Golden Knights have the third-best odds to win the title next season via FanDuel Sportsbook at +1300 odds. Who else has the best odds to win it all next season?
Colorado Avalanche +800
To no one’s surprise, the Colorado Avalanche has the best odds via FanDuel Sportsbook to win the 2023-2024 NHL Stanley Cup. After winning the Stanley Cup Finals in 2022-2023 against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Colorado flamed out in seven games in the first round against the upstart Seattle Kraken.
The Avalanche need to figure out their bottom six this offseason. Gabriel Landeskog is out the entire 2023-2024 season due to an injury. Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, and Cale Makar will need more help around them. Alexander Georgiev will need to be better in the net next season. Head coach Jared Bednar will have his players ready to go come training camp.
Toronto Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers +1100
The Toronto Maple Leafs and the Edmonton Oilers have the second-best odds to win the 2024 NHL Stanley Cup Title. Toronto finally won a playoff round this season against the Tampa Bay Lightning before losing in five games in the second round against the Florida Panthers. The Maple Leafs will be keeping its core four around it seems like with John Tavares, Auston Matthews, Mitchell Marner, and William Nylander.
Sheldon Keefe is still around as head coach. The goaltending was actually not a problem for them this past season, they were just goalie’d by Sergei Bobrovsky. The defense also improved and will see where they go from here.
As for the Edmonton Oilers, they can’t continue to not win a title with the years Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are having. The first order of business should be trying to trade for Juuse Saros from the Nashville Predators or Connor Hellebuyck from the Winnipeg Jets. Stuart Skinner and Jack Campbell is not the answer in net.
They also need to fix up the defense and Darnell Nurse has been a disaster but Evan Bouchard has been a positive for them on the backend. Jay Woodcroft is a really good head coach and they will be one of the top teams in the Western Conference next season with that lethal power play.
